The Kiso River flows from the Japan Alps through the region near Nagoya. Its lower regions are famous for their rapids. Here Yoshida Hiroshi shows a wide and calm stretch of the river with a castle visible atop the hill and fishing boats in the foreground. Deep blue and gray tones in the landscape and the warm glow of the sky suggest a time of day near sunset.
