Whistler’s friend Albert Moore conceived of his paintings as beautiful arrangements of color and line that appeal to the aesthetic sense alone. Both artists pursued this novel approach to art in close collaboration. A Musician embodies their shared interest in color harmonies and analogies between music and painting.
