Fighting in the streets and houses of Niuzhuang in March 1895 is described in this print by Ogata Gekko, one of the most talented artists to illustrate the Sino-Japanese War. In this example the red-orange tone of the garment worn by the soldier who turns toward the house at left has oxidized to a silvery tone. A fierce fight rages in the house as the soldiers in the street defend themselves from enemy forces in the streets.
