Watanabe Sadao, a Christian, studied with Yanagi Soetsu, founder of the "folk art" movement, and the textile artist Serizawa Keisuke, who used stencil techniques for textile design. Watanabe's prints all are based on Old and New Testament biblical stories. His technique uses opaque pigments applied to paper that has been deliberately wrinkled.
