Some Khmer ceramic forms copy shapes of Chinese porcelain reflecting the high value placed on the imported ware. Other forms mimic those of silver or bronze vessels, with incised decoration suggesting the tooling on the metal prototypes Containers of this sort may have been part of domestic furnishings. A Chinese visitor to Angkor in the thirteenth century observed that Khmer elite dined from Chinese ceramic or metal vessels, used metal or clay finger bowls, and drank wine from small metal or clay cups.
