Detached folio from a dispersed copy of a Rawzat al-safa fi sirat al-anbiya' wa'l-muluk wa'l-khulafa (Garden of purity on the lives of the prophets, kings, and caliphs) by Muhammad b. Khwandshah (known as Mirkhwand); Persian in black nasta'liq script; recto: colophon page with the name of scribe and date; verso: right-hand half of a double-page frontispiece, second volume (al-jild al-thani), separate from its facing folio (S1986.88.2), nineteen lines of text; one of a group of twenty-one folios.
Border: The recto is set in gold, red, and blue rulings on cream-colored paper; the frontispiece is set in gold, red, and blue rulings on an illuminated border.
Colophon: "Written by the least God's creature, Inayatullah the scribe of Shiraz, in the year [A.H.] 979 [A.D. 1571-72]. May God forgive his sins and disregard his faults.
