Detached folio from a dispersed copy of the Shahnama (Book of kings) by Firdawsi; text: Persian in black nasta'liq script; recto: text: four columns, fifteen lines; verso: right-hand half of a double-page painting separated from the facing folio (S1986.225), Nushirwan interviews the intruder to his harem; one of a group of six folios.
Border: The text and the painting are set in gold, red, and green rulings on cream-colored paper.
