- Description
-
Octagonal molded serving dish (kobachi) with floral design.
Clay: dense buff stoneware, darkened on surface. Vessel formed in press-mold. Interior surface uneven from pressure of artisan's fingers.
Glaze: transparent, thick, crackled, gray-green on exterior of dish with irregularities in color (dabs of white slip under glaze?), reddish on interior (applied over thin iron wash?). Rim and inside wall near rim unglazed (possibly indicating that dish originally had matching lid). Footrim unglazed.
Decoration: inside, in underglaze cobalt and iron, sprays of abstract leaves and tendrils. Outside, in underglaze iron, large-scale keyfret border just below rim.
Mark: none
