Jar

Jar, short straight neck, rounded shoulder, swelling body, narrows toward flaring base which rounds to inset rounded unglazed foot. Cover missing. Chip on mouth, two chips on base. Brown stains at base and on edge of mouth.
Clay: white porcelain.
Glaze: transparent; foot rim, edge of mouth and one-third of neck height unglazed (for fitting of cover).
Decoration: painted in strong underglaze cobalt blue, outline and wash. Neck, single line at top, band with four conventionalized cloud units and four ladies on a terrace on one side and a clump of shrubs and rocks on the other. Cloud scrolls are overhead and a finishing double line around the base.
