The Lost Symphony: Whistler & the Perfection of Art

Standing Draped Figure

Standing Draped FigureIn addition to depicting models in the nude, Whistler explored the capacity of drapery to articulate the contours of the body. In this drawing, he emulates conventions of classical Greek sculpture and vase painting by emphasizing the graceful folds of drapery that both reveal and conceal underlying forms.
