The Art of Embroidery: Piña-Seda Textiles from the Philippines

Thursday, June 14, 2018, 6 - 8 PM

Discover the artistry of Philippine textiles and learn about the famous pineapple silk, or piña-seda, in a hands-on workshop. This handwoven fabric is made from piña fiber that’s blended with silk to produce a lightweight, strong, and soft textile. Long used in the Philippine national dress, piña-seda continues to have an important place at special Philippine occasions. Expert embroiders working with this material will demonstrate their techniques, and participants will have a chance to try out their embroidery skills. Wear your favorite textiles, and bring your enthusiasm! For ages 16 and older.
