Persian Sufi Sounds: Omoumi and Friends

Thursday, April 26, 2018, 7:30 PM

Vocalist and Persian flute (ney) virtuoso Hossein Omoumi makes a rare East Coast appearance with this adventuresome quartet. The group also features singer Jessika Kenney, instrumentalist Amir Koushkani (tar and setar), and percussionist Hamin Honari (tombak and daf). Their program of spiritual Persian repertoire draws upon the Isfahan school of music, with lyrics by great mystical poets such Attar, Erâghi, and Rumi. All the poems and their English translations will be displayed during the performance.
