Performance: Musicians from Marlboro I

Thursday, November 16, 2017, 7:30 PM

Called “the Heifetz of the flute” by Britain’s Gramophone magazine, Marina Piccinini joins other veterans of the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival to perform music for winds and piano by Beethoven, Ligeti, Poulenc, and Barber. Earlier this year, Piccinini joined the London Philharmonic for the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winner Aaron Jay Kernis’s Flute Concerto, written for her. She performs frequently in Japan and appeared, at the invitation of conductor Seiji Ozawa, at the Saito Kinen Festival. Piccinini also served as guest principal flute with the Boston Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.

Performing with her are Ieva Jokubaviciute, piano; Michael Rusinek, clarinet; Mary Lynch, oboe; Wei-Ping Chou, horn; and Brad Balliett, bassoon. Their complete program features Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet, Beethoven’s Quintet in E-flat Major, Poulenc’s Sextuor, and Barber’s Summer Music.

This concert is part of the twenty-fifth season of the Bill and Mary Meyer Concert Series.

Free tickets required. Tickets are also available at the door starting one hour before each concert.
