The Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet leads a master class with two local university quartets, guiding their interpretation of works that Kronos recently commissioned from Korean and Azerbaijani composers. First, Kronos will coach the Bergamot Quartet, from the Peabody Conservatory, on Soo Yeon Lyuh’s new piece Yessori. Then, Kronos will turn its attention to Dance by Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, performed by a student quartet from the Shenandoah Conservatory. The two works are part of Kronos’s Fifty from Fifty Initiative: The quartet is commissioning fifty works from fifty composers around the world to introduce young musicians to the techniques and styles of twenty-first-century global music.
