Korean-Jazz Encounter: gamin and Friends

Thursday, November 29, 2018, 7:30 PM

Korean court music and shaman ritual meet free jazz in this creative encounter convened by gamin, a multi-instrumentalist. She performs on traditional mouth organ (saenghwang) and double-reed instruments (piri and taepyongso), joined by New York improvisational stars Ned Rothenberg (bass clarinet), Satoshi Takeishi (percussion), and Jeff Fairbanks (trombone). They blend folk, classical, and improvisational styles with contemporary jazz in this unique collaboration, which includes their original interpretation of Don Cherry’s Mopti.
