Learn basic letters from the Korean alphabet (known as Hangeul) through simple art-making processes in this workshop and demonstration, led by artist Sammy Lee and hosted by the Korean Cultural Center. Make rubbings of letterforms including consonants and vowels, work with traditional mulberry paper (hanji), and try out techniques for manipulating paper to make three-dimensional artworks.
Sammy Lee is an interdisciplinary artist and a proprietor of Studio SML | k in Denver. Her work focuses on spatial, narrative, and sequential qualities in personal history, as she incorporates her diverse explorations in fine art, design, and architecture. Lee was born and raised in Seoul and moved to Southern California at the age of sixteen. She studied fine art and media design at UCLA and architecture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in collections at the Getty Research Institute, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Spencer Museum of Art, and the Spanish National Library in Madrid.
