Watch the trailer.

Niki Karimi directed and stars in this drama that garnered multiple awards at the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema. She plays Sahar, a documentary filmmaker who learns that her young assistant is trying to sell her kidney for money to save her mother, who is charged with murder, from execution. Final Whistle is “essential viewing for anyone who has found themselves enamoured by the masterful morality tales of Karimi’s fellow countryman Asghar Farhadi . . . Depicting the strained dichotomy between the middle and lower classes of Iran whilst taking a humanist viewpoint whilst highlighting the role of women in a society governed by a domineering patriarchy, this is a formidable example of defiant cinema” (Patrick Gamble, Cinevue). (Dir.: Niki Karimi, Iran, 2011, 90 min., DCP, Persian with English subtitles)
