Followed by a discussion with explorer Mark Evans and a reception.
The Freer|Sackler and the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center present an evening with explorer and Outward Bound Oman Executive Director Mark Evans, the subject of a new documentary film.
In late 2015, Evans, Mohamad Al Zadjali, and Amur Al Wahaibi set out on foot and camelback to become the first people in eighty-five years to cross the Rub’ al Khali—the largest sand desert on earth. Join Evans as he introduces and discusses this film about their grueling eight hundred-mile, forty-nine-day journey. Crossing the Empty Quarter also includes fascinating historical information about the legendary explorers, among them T.E. Lawrence and Bertram Thomas, in whose footsteps this trio of contemporary adventurers followed.
