Amelia Meyer earned her BA in American studies from the University of Virginia in 2009. In 2011, she received her MA in museum studies from George Washington University in Washington, DC. As a graduate student, Amelia interned in the Division of Culture and the Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History and worked for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. She spent three years as a content developer for a small nonprofit museum in Washington, DC, and worked for two years at a museum design firm in Silver Spring, Maryland. Amelia joined the staff of the Freer|Sackler in February 2016. She works with the chief curator and curator of Islamic art, the curator of South and Southeast Asian art, and the associate curator of American art.
